Treks FAQ
What is the general duration of the treks? The duration of a trek depends on the region and your preferences. It can range from 2–3 days to several days, depending on your physical fitness, pace, and interests.
How challenging are the treks? The difficulty depends on the trek region and duration. To help you prepare, we grade our treks as follows:
-
Grade 1 (Easy): Short day walks and rambles at low altitudes, suitable for anyone leading a reasonably active life. No special preparation is required.
-
Grade 2 (Moderate): Longer walks (4–6 hours/day) at low altitudes (below 3000m). Some hill-walking experience is helpful. Moderate treks may include optional strenuous days, so a basic fitness level is advised.
-
Grade 3 (Strenuous): These treks require higher fitness levels for serious hill walkers. Walking days are typically 6–8 hours long and involve significant ascents and descents (up to 900m or more). Preparation is essential.
What is the best time for trekking? The best seasons for trekking are autumn (September–November) and spring (March–May). For winter enthusiasts, we offer Toubkal winter treks.
What is the weather like? Mountain weather can be unpredictable, with sudden rain or snow possible. Conditions are generally stable during trekking seasons, but proper equipment is essential.
Accommodation & Food
What kind of overnight accommodation is available? During treks: Accommodation depends on the season and your preference, including local guesthouses (gites) or camping in tents. Gites can be basic, with small bedrooms and shared bathrooms, but are run by friendly local families.
Where do we eat meals, and what kind of food is provided? Meals during treks are freshly prepared:
-
In gites: The host family offers traditional Moroccan meals.
-
In camps: An experienced cook prepares meals using hygienic practices and fresh ingredients.
Is the food safe to eat? Yes, food safety is our priority. Gites are carefully chosen for cleanliness, and our cooks use hygienic methods to prepare camp meals.
Equipment & Clothing
What kind of clothes are needed for trekking? Pack for varying conditions. Days may be warm, but evenings can be cold. Include layers, waterproof jackets, and sturdy walking pants. We know it can be tough to decide what to pack, but don't worry—we'll guide you every step of the way!
What type of shoes should I bring?
-
For 1-day excursions, comfortable walking shoes or sneakers are sufficient.
-
Sturdy, well-fitted hiking boots are essential for longer treks. To avoid discomfort, break them in before the trek.
Should I bring trekking equipment with me? You can rent equipment in Imlil at reasonable prices. However, having your gear (like sleeping bags or trekking poles) can feel more convenient. You need to check with your airlines as well. Remember that we are here to provide guidance, and don’t let you alone. We have all the solutions here!
Do you provide equipment for treks? Yes, we provide all necessary camping gear, including tents, mattresses, cooking utensils, and dining equipment. No additional equipment is needed for gite stays.
